Tid’s Longtail Report

Posted in Class of 2006 by ecotourism on January 12, 2006

Hello Everybody,

I am Tid. I am a divemaster in training with the ETC program. I work on the longtail boats and I’m the captain of one of them. They are set up for diving and very beautiful. They have Kabota Diesel motors. We think that we need to make a shorter prop, because the prop is too long and it makes it difficult to drive the boat.

Hi, We work on a major tributary of the Amazon river in Ecuador. We use canoes both metal and fiber glass. These are from 12 meters to 18 meters long. On our large canoe, 18 x 2 wide, we are currently using 2 70 hp outboards. These are very expensive to maintain and operate. I would like to convert to the long tail principle. I would need to use a diesel engine with either a large prop or a splitter to run two shafts and props. I need some help on the technical part so we can build a system here. Thank you, Douglas
